Victor D. Stephenson

Victor Devon Stephenson was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 8, 1962. Victor grew up in Queens, New York where he was baptized in the Lutheran Church. He received his education in the public and private schools in Queens, New York. After graduating Andrew Jackson High School. Victor joined the United States Marines. Victor returned to North Carolina to attend North Carolina A & T University at Greensboro. Victor enjoyed working part time with his Royalty Finance family. Victor decided to return to college to pursue a degree in Education. He attended Roanoke-Chowan Community College, Ahoskie, North Carolina as a full time student. While there, he stayed on Honor Roll and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. His desire and goal was to help young people as a teacher. Victor had a loving, compassionate and humorous personality. He loved to talk and connected well with all he met, both young and old. Wherever there was discord, Victor was the voice of reason, often with a touch of humor. Victor’s love for humanity continued with his donation to the Eye Bank so that others could see. His love of peace, compassion, and togetherness truly reflects the scripture "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity"(Psalms.133:1) Victor departed this life on January 27, 2012. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Stephenson and Ethel Mae Cox Stephenson Cherry. He is survived by his parents, Cosmo C. Kenton and Levonia Sams-Kenton; Sisters, Constance Kenton and Jacqueline Kenton-Jones; Nieces, Tiara and Tiffany Patterson; Aunt Elsie W. Gatling; Uncle James O. Stephenson (Sandra); Cousins Bishop Terrence Williams, Steven Williams, Jon Stephenson, Pia Stephenson; The Kenton family; a nephew, Tyler Jenkins; many other cousins and friends. The family will receive friends Friday February 3, 2012 (1-8 PM) at Hunter’s Funeral Home, 212 N. Third Street, Murfreesboro, North Carolina. A funeral service will be held At First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Reverend Robert Richardson will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Carver Park Cemetery
